Hombre que mira a través de la niebla / Man who looks through the fog

    sé dónde no estás tú

la niebla no es olvido
    sino postergación anticipada

ojalá que la espera
    no desgaste mis sueños
ojalá que la niebla
    no llegue a mis pulmones
y que vos muchachita
    emerjas de ella
como un lindo recuerdo
    que se convierte en rostro

y yo sepa por fin
    que dejas para siempre
la espesura de ese aire maldito
cuando tus ojos encuentren y celebren
mi bienvenida que no tiene pausas

(One of the thirteen men.)

Man who looks through the fog

It’s harder than ever
to name the trees and the windows
and also the future and the pain
the belltower is invisible and mute
    but if it could speak
    its rings
    would be a melancholy fantasy

the corner loses its sharp angle
no one would say that cruelty exists

the martyr’s blood is barely
    a pale stain of bitterness

how things change
    in the fog

the vicious are only
    sadly insecure of themselves
sadists are overflowing with irony
the arrogant are prows
steered by the courage of others
the humble on the other hand
are nowhere to be seen

but I know who is who
    behind this curtain of uncertainty
I know where the abyss is
I know where god is not
I know where death is
I know where you are not

the fog isn’t forgetting
    only an early deferral

hopefully the wait
    doesn’t wear down my dreams
hopefully the fog
    doesn’t get to my lungs
and that you little girl
    emerge from it
like a lovely memory
    that becomes a face

and that finally I know
    that you leave behind forever
the thickness of that cursed air
when your eyes meet and celebrate
    my welcome without hesitation
